What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Our goal is to address the needs of children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing oralfacial myofunctional disorders. These disorders can create narrow arches and crowding teeth. Without this proper relationship, even after orthodontics, relapse can happen. Myofunctional therapy can help correct these dysfunctions for better retention. We have a passion for our patient’s individual development and we want to create a customized plan to meet their specific needs.

Myofunctional Therapy is re-educating the oral facial muscles. Just like physical therapy helps train our bodies back into optimal shape after an injury, Myofunctional therapy helps by training the soft tissues of the face, neck, and mouth to function at the height of their ability and in harmony.

With this highly effective therapy, patients are able to improve the relationship of how they swallow, chew, breath, and posture. It helps to train the facial muscles to perform in an optimal way and prevent improper alignment of the jaw and teeth as we grow and develop. We want to install new positive habits to make sure the changes will last a lifetime.

Who is it for?

No matter what age, you can work on retaining your oral-facial and neck muscles to help you achieve better sleep, posture, orthodontic retention, and breathing. We can help identify any issues with tongue and lip attachments and provide therapy before and after releases to stretch these tissues and help re-train proper movement.
