Will BOTOX® Injections Make My Face Look Frozen?

Girl Wondering About If Botox Freezes Faces

A common misconception about BOTOX® anti-wrinkle injections that we hear in our Fayetteville, AR dental office is that the treatment will cause a “frozen-faced” appearance, preventing you from smiling or showing any emotion at all.

Dr. Wade Kifer has plenty of experience with anti-wrinkle injections to smooth out the wrinkles and lines that occur through habitual expressions such as smiling, concentrating, or squinting.

BOTOX® relaxes the underlying muscles that move the skin. We always start with a conservative dose and can adjust it from there once we know how you will respond to anti-wrinkle injections.

Side effects are typically mild and usually only includes mild bruising in a small percentage of patients. You will not have any downtime, and can return to your normal activities once you leave, with a few exceptions.

  • Avoid lying down for four hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the affected muscles

Why Would You See a Dentist for BOTOX®?

It may seem strange to have cosmetic injections when you come in for your dental cleaning, but if you think it through, dentists have the education and experience to ensure that you achieve the best results. Their knowledge of the facial muscles is much more comprehensive than the training that estheticians or spa employees receive.

TMJ Dysfunction Relief

For patients with a chronic teeth grinding habit, or those who have TMJ disorders, BOTOX® can reduce jaw muscle inflammation and reduce the force of the muscles involved in teeth grinding. TMJ treatment can reduce headaches and facial tension associated with overactive jaw muscles.
