New Patient Exam in Fayetteville, AR

woman sitting in dental exam chair smiling brightly I dental exam fayetteville arWelcome to our office! We are excited to have you as a new patient and we look forward to getting to know you.

Every new patient visit is a little different since everyone comes to us with different needs. We’d like to walk you through a typical visit, though, so that you have a good idea what to expect.

Your Initial Examination

If you come into our Fayetteville dental office needing a dental check-up, cleaning, or workup, we will do a comprehensive examination to look at each area of your oral health. This is to help pinpoint and treat any and all issues.

Your examination will include:

  • Looking at the health of your jaw and occlusion (bite)
  • Checking the health of your gum tissue and bones
  • Examining the health of each tooth for cavities and problems

We then follow your exam up with a comprehensive oral cancer screening.

With all of this information, we create a plan that works for each individual patient. We combine this plan with each patient's cosmetic needs – and even financial needs – to create a customized treatment plan.

Taking the Time to Learn Your Needs

Every patient is different, and you may be more susceptible to certain types of dental problems than another patient. We analyze each patient to see what types of problems you are more likely to have and then help you figure out why you are having these problems.

Once we have a good idea of which concerns you are facing, we will give you solutions to help you prevent them from occurring. Many of the problems that patients have are not their fault and are simply due to levels of susceptibility. A lot of our patients are relieved to find out that many of their dental problems are not their fault!

Answering Your Questions and Addressing Your Concerns in the Fayetteville Area

Some patients come in with questions and we just sit down and talk. We are happy to do a second opinion visit at no charge to the patient. We also have patients who want to know if they are a candidate for implants. We will sit down with you and look at your options and help you to figure out the best plan for you.

Whatever you do – if you haven't seen a dentist for a dental check-up, now is the time to come in. We promise not to shame you, judge you, or make you feel guilty. We just want to help you improve your smile so that you feel good about sharing it with the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental insurance is kind of a misnomer.

How is dental insurance different?

Most insurance plans have a deductible and then cover most of the expenses after you have met your deductible. This is how car, home, and most health insurance work. Dental insurance is different. We like to refer to it as a benefit plan. It usually covers your preventative procedures like prophylaxis (cleanings) and exams and then pays less or not at all when major procedures are needed. They usually put limits on treatment payouts of around one thousand or fifteen hundred dollars. This is far less than most other types of insurance.

It is up to your employer (or whoever is paying for the insurance) to determine your benefits and maximum payable amounts. The insurance company will usually sell a plan that covers more of the major procedures, but the cost of the plan will go up. Each company offers different plans, and it is up to you to look at what the cost to you is and the benefit that you will receive.

When you come intoNew Patient Appointment | Fayetteville Dentist Northwest Arkansas Family Dentistry in Fayetteville, AR, for a new patient exam, here’s what you can expect:

  1. It’s best to come a few minutes early so we can have you fill out any needed paperwork. (Hint: You can save yourself some time by filling out the paperwork ahead of time. You can find it directly on our website.) This is also a good time for you to ask any questions you might have about the appointment.
  2. Once you are brought back into the exam room, you’ll talk with your dentist about any oral health concerns you might have. We’ll go over your medical history at that time as well. If you are feeling anxious about the new patient exam, be sure to share that with your dentist.
  3. Next, your mouth, teeth, and gums will be examined, and x-rays will be taken to find out if there are any potential issues that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Look at your initial exam as a way to get to know us—and us you!—and to find out the status of your oral health. If any issues are detected, you’ll also be able to find out how we might be able to help you.

"You Will Not Be Disappointed"- Glenn F

"I recently brought my developmentally disabled brother in for his first dental appointment in many years. He was treated by all of the staff with respect and understanding, and the patience displayed in answering his questions was outstanding. We came away with a better understanding of his condition and problems, and felt that the dentist was completely honest about prognosis and treatment options. I couldn't have asked for a better experience for my brother. I highly recommend this group for you and any all members of your family, no matter what their problems or disabilities may be, or how afraid they are of dental treatment. You will not be disappointed!"
