What Is Botox?
BOTOX® is a toxin made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Here at NWA Family Dental, Dr. Johnson uses Botox for cosmetic purposes, such as treating forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet. We can also use Botox to treat other conditions like migraines, tension headaches, and some jaw issues.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox prevents the injected muscle from contracting. This makes the wrinkles relax and soften.
How Is a Botox Procedure Done?
Before getting Botox treatment, it is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to your appointment. It is also helpful to stop taking any anti-inflammatory medicine or aspirin at least 2 weeks before your appointment to avoid bruising.
Placing Botox only takes a few minutes. Dr. Johnson uses topical numbing cream for patients before injecting Botox.
Once the Botox is placed, it takes 7 to 14 days to start seeing results. Avoid touching your face where the Botox was placed for 24 hours to prevent the spread of the Botox to other areas.
How Long Does Botox Last?
The effects of Botox vary from person to person and will typically last 3 to 5 months. Once you notice muscle movement beginning again, it is time to schedule another appointment.
