A relaxing dinner with friends can quickly turn into a nightmare when you bite down on a piece of crusty bread and break your tooth. Or a pleasant morning can go awry when you sip your coffee and feel a sharp pain that doesn’t go away.
The truth is that there’s never a good time for a dental emergency, but knowing who to call when you need treatment is the first step toward feeling better and getting your oral health back on track.
Prompt Care in Northwest Arkansas
Our dental office serves patients from Fayetteville and the surrounding communities of Springdale, Rogers, and Cave Springs.
Here are some of the most common dental emergencies we treat:
- Knocked-out tooth — Time is critical when your tooth gets completely knocked out. Without touching the tooth’s roots, try to reinsert your tooth, but if that doesn’t work, store it inside your cheek until you can reach our office.
- Severe tooth pain — Intense tooth pain often indicates tooth decay or infection, so it’s important to contact our office for an appointment. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with warm salt water and take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
- Broken restoration — If you break or lose a filling or crown, try to save any broken pieces and bring them with you to your appointment. You can place a piece of sugar-free gum over your tooth to reduce sensitivity.
- Soft tissue injury — For a cheek, lip, or tongue injury, place pressure on the area to stop the bleeding and call our office for advice. However, for severe bleeding, go to the nearest emergency room for treatment.
- Chipped or broken tooth — A chipped or broken tooth isn’t always a dental emergency, but bacteria can enter the area and lead to an infection, so it’s best to schedule an appointment. Bring any pieces with you and cover the tooth with dental cement or sugar-free gum if it’s sharp.
