Choosing a dental implant is a great decision for the long-term benefit of your smile. Dental implants are the most lifelike option and offer many health and cosmetic benefits including bone retention, bite retention, and stability.

Committing to dental implant treatment does not provide instant results, however. Our patients who opt for dental implants tell us that the results are well worth the wait.

In some cases, immediate restoration of a dental implant is possible. At Northwest Arkansas Family Dentistry, we want to give our patients the best results when it comes to dental implants (and other treatment) so we will go over treatment times at your consultation.

Here is the typical timeline you can expect:

Evaluation and Planning for Dental Implants

The planning process allows us to identify any underlying conditions such as periodontal disease, decay, or bone loss. We will address those first before proceeding with treatment so you get the best results.

We will take x-rays, impressions, digital images, and a full medical history before getting started. Then, Dr. Wade Kifer will identify the ideal location to surgically “implant” your new tooth.

Surgical Procedure

Placing your dental implant surgically in your bone is an important step in the implant process. Most patients report very little discomfort because of the lack of nerve endings in bone. Recovery time is generally just a couple of days and may include mild swelling. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medication can help.

Healing and Integration

One of the greatest benefits of dental implants is the stability they provide. This is because dental implants fuse with your natural bone and become part of your body. This process can take about 4-6 months to complete. Dr. Kifer will follow up on a regular basis to determine the appropriate time to restore your implant.

Restoration – Your Dental Implant Crown

Your crown is the part of your dental implant that people will see when you smile. Dr. Kifer will match it to your other teeth, so it blends in perfectly and looks completely natural.
