What You Need to Know about Insurance and Financial Options for Your Dentistry

It seems like dental insurance covers less and less these days. Many major providers seem to charge more and pay less. We are preferred providers for Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Guardian Insurance, in our Fayetteville dental office.

Even as a preferred provider, we find that dental insurance should be considered more of a discount than a catch-all for coverage.

Dental Insurance Is Not Like Medical

Dental insurance is designed for people who are generally healthy. Preventive services are often covered between 80-100%, and major services are covered at lower percentages – sometimes as low as 30-50% covered, and the yearly limitations are restrictive.

Just Because It Is Not Covered Doesn’t Mean You Don’t Need It

If you submit a preauthorization, the insurance company can determine whether they cover the procedure or not. Often, their decision has no reflection on whether you need the service. Decisions are based on the contract between your insurance company and yourself or your employer.

In many cases, services are excluded, even if it is necessary to save your tooth. Extractions, however, are often covered, but losing a tooth is never ideal and can lead to additional oral health problems.

We Have Solutions

Rather than paying for a dental plan that may or may not cover your services, we offer an in-house savings plan that lets your money work for you and any procedure – even cosmetic dentistry!

We also offer patient financing options to cover your out-of-pocket expenses. So, if you need a dental crown or you want veneers, you can have your dentistry now and pay it off over time. You can visit our financial pages for more information. Better yet, give us a call! If you have any questions about your dental insurance, our Fayetteville dental team can help!
