Dental pain is a tricky topic and warrants a trip to your Fayetteville, AR emergency dentist. The thing with dental pain is that it doesn’t usually go away without treatment and may worsen – fast. Severe dental pain can cause lost sleep, missed days at work, and can distract you from your daily tasks.

At Northwest Arkansas Family Dental, we treat dental emergencies as quickly as possible and if you call us at the first sign of a problem, we can usually treat you on the same day.

What Tooth Pain Means

It’s hard to pinpoint what dental pain means without a full exam. Dental pain may not always mean a serious tooth condition. It could indicate that your jaw is not functioning properly, you have been grinding your teeth, or it might actually be a problem with your tooth – like an infection that requires a root canal or a cracked tooth.

Diagnosing the Problem

When you arrive, Dr. Kifer or one of his assistants will take an x-ray of the area. For dental emergencies, we often use a periapical x-ray to capture the entire tooth from crown to root, including the bone surrounding the root. This vertical x-ray shows us more information than is visible on a bitewing. Bitewings are designed to identify decay and other conditions in the top portion of the tooth.

Once your emergency exam and x-ray are complete, Dr. Kifer will be able to go over his diagnosis, along with all of your treatment options. We have solutions for just about any emergency that can arise, so you are in good hands when you come to us.

In most cases, we will be able to stabilize your condition and address your pain right away. We can often provide treatment on the spot. Some procedure will require an additional visit and we will arrange it at a time that works for you.

If you need an emergency dentist in the Fayetteville, AR area to resolve your pain, give us a call.
