If you are a person who has had bad luck with denture fit, you might feel discouraged and think that there is no hope for dentures that fit properly. If your dentures fall or slip at the worst times, you may avoid social situations, which can make you feel isolated.

Dr. Wade Kifer can help. He is skilled and experienced when it comes to denture design and manufacture that helps patients maintain an active social life and have confidence when they smile.

If you wear dentures, here are a few things to consider:

Dentures Need Periodic Replacement

Because our bodies change over time, dentures will not fit forever. Weight loss, gain or changes in bone can destabilize dentures and cause them to fit differently. It is a good idea to plan on replacing dentures about every 5-7 years for the best results.

Relines Offer a Temporary Solution

A reline changes the palatal liner of a denture and can provide a solution for ill-fitting dentures.

Hard reline – This is usually completed in the lab and takes about 24-48 hours. The hard liner inside the denture will be replaced using an updated impression from the patient.

Soft reline – The soft, rubbery material inside the denture can be replaced in our dental office and eliminate the need for you to go without your dentures.

Using Denture Adhesives Is Not Ideal

Many denture adhesives contain zinc. Some studies show that excessive zinc exposure can cause health concerns. Not to mention that the feeling of the adhesive inside the mouth is distasteful and can change the flavor of foods.

Using them occasionally is acceptable, but repeated use means it’s time for a denture check.

Implant-Retained Dentures Add Confidence

Dental implant treatment and options have come a long way in the last decade. Patients with bone loss are not automatically disqualified from implant treatment. We can place 4-6 dental implants per arch to lock dentures in place. They will no longer move or shift until you release them for cleaning or inspection.
